How Your Mobile Number Is Costing You Business

Clare Runham

In our experience, tradespeople often advertise their mobile numbers as – for obvious reasons – they can’t just sit by a landline phone taking calls. Not only does their job involve being on the road, the idea of paying someone just to answer the phone (let alone an office to put them in!) is unrealistic.

But did you know you that advertising your mobile number could be costing you work?

Research shows buyers are far more likely to trust - and buy from - businesses that have a landline number due to them looking more established and professional. Furthermore , a national 0845 phone number has been shown to generate as much as 3x the calls as a mobile number , with an 0800 freephone number exceeding even that increase.

Since 2015, people have been able to call 0800 numbers for free from their mobiles, which has resulted in a noticeable preference in people preferring to call businesses that have them.

Despite giving a big company look and increasing call levels as a result , 0800 numbers are actually inexpensive, costing less than £15 a month . Being ‘virtual,’ they can be re-directed at any time, depending on when you’re available.

Here at Miss MPS, we help numerous plumbers, electricians and building firms by taking their calls for them . As a result, they:

·Don’t miss potential sales calls due to being busy

·Don’t miss other important calls from having bad mobile reception

·Don’t leave a bad impression from taking calls in noisy environments

·Don’t get hassled by time-wasting sales calls

·Get freedom by forwarding their calls when they need a break

As a pay-as-you-go service, we’re the perfect solution for small, growing businesses who need that bit of extra help. From simply taking calls over lunch breaks, to being a complete virtual reception team which books appointments, we provide a solution for any requirement or budget. Ah, winter. The season of cozy jumpers, steaming mugs of tea and, for gas engineers, the annual game of heating roulette. The moment that first cold chill hits, homes across the nation come alive with the sound of boilers groaning back to life—or not. Phones ring off the hook as panicked voices fill the line: "My heating won’t turn on!" or the classic, "It’s making this weird clunk-clunk-wheeeze sound—can you fix it today?!" For gas engineers, this is peak season—a chaotic storm of urgent calls, overflowing job lists, and the impossible task of answering the phone while also diagnosing a misbehaving boiler. But who’s answering your calls when you’re knee-deep in radiators and wrenches?

Chilly toes, waking up early to defrost the windscreen, and leaving work to the already dark skies—these are just a few of the frustrations that come with winter. While it may not be the end of the world, it's all the little things. And despite the festivity and Christmas songs playing on the radio, staying motivated at this time of year can be challenging. I'm sure many of you can relate to me when I say this. At Miss MPS, we understand how important it is to maintain well-being, especially during the busy winter months. As virtual assistants, we support our clients by alleviating stress from overwhelming workloads and tight deadlines. We also help them take well-deserved breaks and spend time with loved ones.
