How much does a Virtual Assistant cost?

Suzy King
Price vs Value: How much should you pay a VA?

So you’re interested in hiring a Virtual Assistant but want to know how much it costs. Fair question!

The good news is, the whole concept of using a Virtual Assistant involves great value – you’re avoiding the costs of recruiting an employee and paying a full-time salary. What’s more, there’s no stress of managing that person, and there’s no NI or pension costs to worry about either!
But let’s get to the crunch, how much should you expect to pay a Virtual Assistant?

Most VAs work on an hourly rate

You’ll find almost every Virtual Assistant will charge by the hour, with many having packages which will involve a discount if you commit to regular work.

According to a 2019 survey by the Society of Virtual Assistants, the hourly rate VAs charge is around £30 per hour. Indeed, this is what we charge at Miss MPSfor ad-hoc work – this goes to under £30 an hour for clients who commit to more than 10 hours per month.
The comparison with employing a full-time employee

Compared to minimum wage (which is £8.21 for over 25s), £30 per hour may seem quite a jump. That is until you actually look at what it costs to employ someone.

A typical entry level admin or receptionist salary is £16,000+. You then need to add employer NIC, mandatory pension and you will also need to consider the cost of equipment, any training and the ongoing management. So, even with minimal spend, you’re talking at least £18,000.
What does that translate to? You would need to use Miss MPS – at our highest ad-hoc rate – for over 50 hours a month to justify hiring a full-time admin person.

Then you have to consider value for money

Consider this, how good do you expect an entry level admin person to cope versus a team of experienced Virtual Assistants? Whilst we’re more than happy to handle basic admin jobs, we have a wealth of experience doing the likes of social media management, board minutes, event preparation, mystery shopping, supplier reviews, website design and much more. You only have to read some of our client testimonialsto see how highly our team is valued.

Ah, winter. The season of cozy jumpers, steaming mugs of tea and, for gas engineers, the annual game of heating roulette. The moment that first cold chill hits, homes across the nation come alive with the sound of boilers groaning back to life—or not. Phones ring off the hook as panicked voices fill the line: "My heating won’t turn on!" or the classic, "It’s making this weird clunk-clunk-wheeeze sound—can you fix it today?!" For gas engineers, this is peak season—a chaotic storm of urgent calls, overflowing job lists, and the impossible task of answering the phone while also diagnosing a misbehaving boiler. But who’s answering your calls when you’re knee-deep in radiators and wrenches?

Chilly toes, waking up early to defrost the windscreen, and leaving work to the already dark skies—these are just a few of the frustrations that come with winter. While it may not be the end of the world, it's all the little things. And despite the festivity and Christmas songs playing on the radio, staying motivated at this time of year can be challenging. I'm sure many of you can relate to me when I say this. At Miss MPS, we understand how important it is to maintain well-being, especially during the busy winter months. As virtual assistants, we support our clients by alleviating stress from overwhelming workloads and tight deadlines. We also help them take well-deserved breaks and spend time with loved ones. However, looking after ourselves while caring for others is just as essential. Here are my top tips for staying healthy and motivated this winter:
