Fall In Love With Your Business All Over Again

Clare Runham

As a small business owner myself, I know how your enthusiasm can be sapped by the early mornings and the late evenings just to keep up with your workload.

Running a start-up involves wearing many hats, and there probably aren’t many you’ve chosen! Sadly, the unglamorous side of running a business is always therefore you, and that isn’t helped when you only get to get on with the real work once the kids are asleep.

I wasn’t surprised by what I read in Steve Neuner’s article Why Overworking Is Bad For Your Health And Your Business. Being stressed from overworking makes it harder to focus, perform as highly and encourages mistakes. And that’s before we even get onto how that affects your home life! Don’t worry, you aren’t alone:

·85% of UK adults are experiencing stress regularly

·39% of UK adults admit they feel too stressed

·Over a third feel stressed for at least one full day per week

·The most common cause of stress is money, followed by work and health concerns

When it comes to work stress, some of that is down to simply not being that great at some of the jobs we’re doing. Why? Because we weren’t trained for them! This results in those tasks taking longer, mistakes creeping in and resulting reluctance to do them. The ensuing stress then starts to affect the performance of the stuff you’re actually good at.

The justification for staying on this never-ending stress cycle? Money. The thought of a young business outsourcing or hiring staff to help is either fanciful or financially suicidal. That’s why I launched my virtual assistant business , to provide the ‘pay as you go’ helping hand, but only when businesses actually need it.

With the stress handed to us, this allows my clients to get back to what they’re good at – what they love doing. And because we’re good at admin jobs, we get it done quicker, improving your productivity further. In fact, we often save clients money as little jobs like comparing suppliers on your behalf usually results in our costs being paid for.

“I've been using Miss MPS services for organising my events, organising my admin and organising my business for nearly a year now, they are such a calm, responsive service to have that I can get on with my motivational business without worrying about the bits I'm not good at, because they are the best!”

Ah, winter. The season of cozy jumpers, steaming mugs of tea and, for gas engineers, the annual game of heating roulette. The moment that first cold chill hits, homes across the nation come alive with the sound of boilers groaning back to life—or not. Phones ring off the hook as panicked voices fill the line: "My heating won’t turn on!" or the classic, "It’s making this weird clunk-clunk-wheeeze sound—can you fix it today?!" For gas engineers, this is peak season—a chaotic storm of urgent calls, overflowing job lists, and the impossible task of answering the phone while also diagnosing a misbehaving boiler. But who’s answering your calls when you’re knee-deep in radiators and wrenches?

Chilly toes, waking up early to defrost the windscreen, and leaving work to the already dark skies—these are just a few of the frustrations that come with winter. While it may not be the end of the world, it's all the little things. And despite the festivity and Christmas songs playing on the radio, staying motivated at this time of year can be challenging. I'm sure many of you can relate to me when I say this. At Miss MPS, we understand how important it is to maintain well-being, especially during the busy winter months. As virtual assistants, we support our clients by alleviating stress from overwhelming workloads and tight deadlines. We also help them take well-deserved breaks and spend time with loved ones. However, looking after ourselves while caring for others is just as essential. Here are my top tips for staying healthy and motivated this winter:
